Community Resource Organizations in Colorado for Individuals with Disabilities and their Caregivers

Please note that these organizations may not be specific to assistive technology, but may be helpful in finding the right services and supports in your community for family members with disabilities. 

Ability Connection Colorado offers a variety of educational, employment, and family support services. EMPOWER Colorado offers support, resources, education, and advocacy for the families of children who have social/emotional, mental, or behavioral challenges. Parent to Parent of Colorado connects families of sons and daughters with disabilities or special healthcare needs to emotional and informational supports. 

Alliance Colorado is a nonprofit, statewide association of Community Centered Boards (CCBs) and Program Approved Service Agencies (PASAs) that is dedicated to strengthening services and supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). 

The Anchor Center for Blind Children provides early education and intervention services for children birth to five years old who are blind or visually impaired. 

The Arc of Colorado provides many services at no cost for children and adults across the state, including assistance for families attaining early intervention and public education services, help with development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and assistance for adults with developmental disabilities. 

The Assistive Technology Exchange is designed to make it easy to sell or give your used disability related technology to someone who may benefit. Similar to a classified ads for AT. Browsing the listings does NOT require a login, however an account is required to contact listing parties or post your own technology to the exchange. 

AT Funding $ources is a searchable online database. It is provided to assist Coloradoans with disabilities in locating needed funding to purchase assistive technology devices and services for their specific needs. 

Formerly known as Audio Information Network of Colorado. Aftersight allows registered listeners to access audio programs online, through downloaded podcasts, on TV, or over the phone. With recorded content from over 100 newspapers and magazine articles, our statewide programs provide over 1,500 listeners with everything from national news to local news and community events. 

The mission of the Autism Society of Colorado is to improve the lives of individuals with autism, their families, providers, educators, and members of the community. 

The Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado is the go-to resource hub for help and services for survivors with an injury to the brain, their families, and providers. 

College Living Experience (CLE) is the industry's leading provider of post-secondary supports for young adults with learning disabilities and differences. Dedicated to providing the highest quality of services, we strive to propel young adults toward success as they journey through their transition to independence. CLE students pursue their academic program or career of interest while also receiving services across the domains of independent living and social skill development. 

Colorado ABLE gives people with disabilities the ability to save. The new Colorado ABLE plan helps individuals save, while preserving their SSI and Medicaid. 

The Colorado Center for the Blind provides innovative teaching techniques and philosophy that continues to have far-reaching effects on the lives of blind people, taking them to new heights of independence. 

Colorado Commission for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and DeafBlind connects people with support and resources to address the needs of the deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind communities. 

The mission of the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council is to advocate, in collaboration with and on behalf of people with developmental disabilities for the establishment and implementation of public policy, which will further their independence, productivity, and integration. 

The Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation helps individuals with disabilities prepare for, obtain, maintain, and advance in employment by providing a range of services based on your individual employment needs and goals. 

The Colorado Fund for People with Disabilities serves people with disabilities and older adults. Their range of services has grown to meet the wide demands of helping families protect and conserve assets and enhance quality of life. CFPD seeks to enhance the independence and quality of life for people who are elderly or disabled and their families. CFPD actively evaluates, monitors, oversees, coordinates, and implements services in partnership with its clients and their families to ensure and maintain their rights, integrity, and dignity. 

The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) is a state-funded school within the Colorado Department of Education. The school was established for the purpose of providing comprehensive educational services for children, birth to age 21, who are blind or visually impaired and/or deaf or hard of hearing. Services are provided directly to students enrolled at the school, and outreach programs serve students, staff, and families in communities throughout Colorado.

The Colorado Talking Book Library provides audio, Braille, and large print books for those who can't read standard print. 

Disability Law Colorado is an independent, public interest non-profit organization, specializing in civil rights and discrimination issues. 

Easterseals provides services to help children and adults with disabilities as well as support to their families. Easterseals assists more than one million individuals and their families annually at more than 550 Easterseals services sites across the country.

El Grupo VIDA is a network of Hispanic/Latino parents formed to provide mutual support for people with disabilities, their parents, family, and guardians.

Family Voices aims to achieve family-centered care for all children and youth with health care needs and/or disabilities. A national organization, FAMILY VOICES provides families resources and support to make informed decisions, advocate for improved public and private policies, build partnerships among families and professionals, and serve as a trusted resource on health care. 

The Learning Disability Association visualizes a world in which: all individuals with learning disabilities are empowered to thrive and participate fully in society; the incidence of learning disabilities is reduced; and learning disabilities are universally understood and effectively addressed. LDA's mission is to create opportunities for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities and to reduce the incidence of learning disabilities in future generations. 

The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome is the first global institute to encompass basic research, clinical research, and clinical care specifically for people with Down syndrome. The mission of the institute is to eradicate the medical and cognitive ill effects associated with Down syndrome. Significantly improving the lives of people with Down syndrome is a major focus. The institute partners are the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, the University of Colorado Boulder, and Children's Hospital Colorado.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is leading the fight to free individuals -- and the families who love them -- from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life. We use our collective strength to help kids and adults live longer and grow stronger by finding research breakthroughs across diseases, caring for individuals from day one and empowering families with services and support in hometowns across America. 

PEP is Parents Encouraging Parents! The Exceptional Student Services Unit (ESSU) at the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) plan conferences throughout the year that are family-centered and designed to offer support, information, and education to parents and professionals. 

PEAK Parent Center is a nonprofit that works every day to ensure that all people with disabilities are fully included in their neighborhood schools, communities, employment, and all walks of life. 

The Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team provides resources for individuals with disabilities ready to transition out of the educational system.

The Rocky Mountain ADA Center's Mission is to provide information, guidance, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) tailored to meet the needs of individuals and organizations in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. 

The IDA-Rocky Mountain Branch supports those living with dyslexia, language and literacy challenges by providing research-based education and resources to individuals, families, and educators. The IDA-Rocky Mountain Branch is recognized as the premier authority in the Rocky Mountain Region for providing state-of-the-art expertise in the area of literacy so all individuals with dyslexia, language and literacy challenges are afforded the opportunity to achieve their highest potential. 

The mission of the Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Association is to assure inclusion and enhance independence of people with Down syndrome. We will achieve this by providing education, resources, and support in partnership with individuals, families, professionals, and the community.

JFK Partners is an interdepartmental program of the departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry of the University of Colorado School of Medicine located at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. JFK Partners is designated as Colorado's University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Program. JFK Partners has collaborative relationships with numerous organizations that are a part of Colorado's developmental disability and special health care needs community. JFK provides interdisciplinary training for families of children with disabilities, continuing education for professionals, clinical services, and community collaboration, in addition to ongoing research to benefit prevention and treatment of disabilities in children.
